Malaysia Road Trip Part 1 - Kukup & Malacca
Beware of an avalanche of photos ahead! =D About a week ago, Xp, Lizard, him and I decided to go on a road trip to Malaysia for a short escape. I've been on quite a few Malaysia trips with Xp, trekking, shopping... it's real cool that we have new company now. Hehe. Anyway, the trip was as usual, very our style - impromptu. We decided on where to go the night before at what? 11pm? And we met the next morning at 9am. Haha. And I must say, I enjoyed myself thoroughly, though I've been to almost all the places already, except for Kukup. Travelling makes me happy, travelling with my loved one/good friends - pure bliss. Enjoy the photos! Went to Hawk to rent a car for the trip. We were very lucky that they had just one family-size car left - Nissan Sentra (equivalent of Nissan Sunny).
And we were headed off to Kukup, a fishing village! It's a short drive from JB, 'bout an hour or so. Kukup confuses me a little. It's kinda like a commercial little tourist village yet it still retains that rustic feel. Maybe it's cos Pulau Kukup, the mangrove swamp, is a few minutes boat ride away from the mainland.
Saw a tourist info centre when we reached (was quite amazed there's one there). It was very informative indeed. There was a lady who explained to us about Pulau Kukup and the creatures that inhabit the island. It felt like we were attending a geography lesson, you know, mangrove swamps, red tree trunks, birds, different kinda roots and all. Cool stuff.
The shops that you see in the next few pictures are all built on stilts in water!
We decided we'll have a seafood lunch before embarking on our nature trip (RM5 for a trip to Pulau Kukup and a small kelong. It was seriously value for money!
The lady at the tourist info centre brought us to this cheap seafood restaurant (not super cheap also). There were quite a few seafood restaurants in Kukup since it was a fishing village, apparently, most are quite expensive. I wished we'd decided to go to a more expensive seafood restaurant though. The seafood we had was really not up to expectations.
The not-very-fantastic fish and cereal prawns =S
Time to fall into the arms of mother nature!
We're waiting for the boat at the new jetty which is still under construction. The shy little boy didn't wanna take a photo. Haha.
Before we knew it, we were at Pulau Kukup! It was like another Sungei Buloh.

Love the silhouette of the tree against the sky!

Interesting quotes along the way.
Can you spot the colorful little crabs? The male one has one big and one small pincer while the female has two small ones.
We climbed up this watch tower which was quite high. Check out that Xp haha.
Reached the top - We see green everywhere.

Left the island after a rejuvenating walk. Next stop - kelong! There were many interesting types of sea creatures (food) which were introduced to us by this young boy. Groupers, clams, small little shark with many many teeth, fish that shoot water to get food and other weird creatures.

After Kukup, we drove on to Malacca! It was already quite late by the time we reached Malacca. Searched around for a place to stay before dinner. Stayed at the trusty Heeren Inn yet again heh. We always stay there when we go trek Gunung Datuk.
Yummy chicken wings, sting ray, Penang char kway teow, ba kut teh and yong tau foo for dinner!
Went to another part of Malacca that I haven't been to before for some after dinner shoppin' and bought a new cap. Heh.
Headed back to a pub nearby our inn for some drinks. We were quite looking forward to going back to the pub we discovered the last time we trekked Datuk, but it wasn't open. In fact, probably cos it was Deepavali, the whole town seemed much quieter. It rained very heavily just before we wanted to go back to our inn and we had to run in the rain back to the car. Never had so much fun running in the rain before.
The following morning, the inn owner recommended us to go to the wanton mee stall, which was just a few shops away, for breakfast. The mee was not bad and of course, super cheap.

Next stop: Genting and KL!
